64 bit vs 32 bit, I don't know if this is the forum category to address for this is my first attempt! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm not a computer wiz, I am just learning the basics! Please bear with me. I am trying to understand the difference between a 64bit program computer vs a 32 bit computer. I purchased a 64 based computer. Yet all of my software, and apps are being based upon a 32 bit set-up?? I don't understand what this means? When I downloaded an anti-spyware program. It automatically set itself up as a32 spyware program. Yet my system is a HP Envy 700-074, 64 bit computer. My question, is I would like the 64 bit structure to take control, Become the program manager. But my local 32 bit program seems to be dominating all software which I download.  I don't know exactly how to stop this??  Appreciate any advice or explanations?  If you don't mind, please try to keep the tech advice basic.  Easy to follow?  Thank-you for your consideration and hopefully some feedback!  Simple question!    Some reasonable advice, please

  • As for learning the basics, let's start from finding a suitable forum for your question.

    Try this one:

    General Windows Desktop Development Issues

Next time when you don't know where to post (unfortunately Microsoft wants us to pass a little IQ test ...) post in "Where is the Forum For…?"

Visit also the Answers forums, these are more friendly to non-nerdish people and cover a lot of useful topics.

    Regards,

  • Hello,

The Windows Desktop Perfmon and Diagnostic tools forum is to discuss performance monitor (perfmon), resource monitor (resmon), and task manager, focusing on HOW-TO, Errors/Problems, and usage scenarios.

As the question is off topic here, I am moving it to the Where is the Forum... forum.
