SATA PCI cards RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys

I'm jsut building my WHS and have got hold of 2 PCI SATA cards. I had 2 cards before each with 2 ports but the cards came from PC world and I never really trusted them. The new cards have 4 ports each allowing some room for future upgrades and Silicon Image Sil-3114 cards.

I manged to get WHS server to boot with one new card and one old card in. When I replaced the second old card with the second new card the PC does not get beyond the CPU Fan warning (this come up each time I boot as there is no CPU fan).

When I remove the second card the PC boots fine.

If I try to boot the PC with all 4 disks connected to the one card it doesn't boot (although I do get the windows home server loading screen, the OS jsut never loads).

I also get an error for the one new card that is workin -

"Warning no Device!" I think this is because it's not set up as a RAID, just JBOD instead.

    Any advice on this?

  • Hi,

Sound as the 2 pci cards conflict with each others, IRQ problem and a like.

Try to change the older card to another pci bus slot. or assign another IRQ for it in BIOS, yes old school issue, but it could help.

    My best.
