Can I make a recurring item in the Register? Money 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Here's what I'm trying to accomplish...

I have things that come out of my account every month.  Electricity bill, cable bill, etc.  They are debited from my checking account automatically. I do not make a payment to these companies.

What I want to do is make these recurring items in the register so I can forecast out my balance.  I right clicked on one and chose Make Recurring but all that did was make a future payment under the Paying Bills section.  The item did not show up in the register at all.  I don't want to have to add these things in every month if I don't have to.  Can someone help me figure out how to do this?  I wouldn't think it'd be hard but I just can't find it.

    Thanks.

  • The normal way this is done, using Advanced Bills, is to do what you've done to schedule these recurring items. Then you can edit the scheduled item(s) and set it (them) to enter in the register automatically X days before scheduled. This will keep you from messing with them but not force them into the register far in advance.

To project balances (cash flow) going forward, the way Money is designed to be used is you get all these kinds of things you want to get scheduled in the Bills & Deposits, then use the tool called Forecast Cash Flow. It will take currrent register information for a given account or several accounts and then overlay on top of that, the forward projections of all of your scheduled items, and, optinally, budgeted expenses.

See if that gets you closer to where you want to go.

  • Having the recurring Bill Pay enter the register automatically would be exactly what I need.  However, I'm not seeing that option.  I see where I can click "Enter in Register" to enter the next one in, but I'm not seeing where I can set it to enter the register automatically a certain number of days before the item is actually due,

If I can do that, I think that'd get me exactly what I'm looking to accomplish.

  • Oh, I found it.  Had to switch from Essential to Advanced Bill pay and now it's there.

I'll fool around with this and see what I can do.

    Thanks.
