Theme Not Showing Up Properly

Question
-
I am using the latest release of Windows Live Writer (14.0.3913.522) on a Windows XP operating system.
My problem started a couple of days ago (on Saturday actually) when I switched to a new theme on my self-hosted Wordpress site. Now, when I try to update the theme on Writer, it does not show up as expected. Instead, the theme is wrong. However, when I preview it using Writer's Preview tab, it shows up fine with all the colors and text.
I have asked another writer on the site and he says that Writer is showing the theme just fine on his end.
I tried to delete the account on Writer, restart my computer and then add the account again and it still shows up half-baked (still the same results).
I tried refreshing the theme countless times but I am still getting the same results.
I even updated to the latest version of Writer today (which is the version I quoted in the intro) thinking that that could be the cause of the problem but that was not the case.
I guess I have exhausted all options on my end and have yet to find an option. Is there a way around this and how can I work it out?Monday, June 2, 2008 10:20 PM

Hi Tariq,
Sorry to hear that you're running into problem with theme detection. We have been known to not work so well with certain themes that use absolute positioning or contain other elements that make it not show up properly in Writer. Usually this kind of problem is completely on a theme-by-theme basis so we can't afford to fix all of them. Sometimes the problem is also limited to a certain OS or IE version, which might explain why it's showing up fine on your friend's computer.
Is the theme messed up to the point that editing is impossible? Do you mind posting a link to your blog (if you don't want to post it up here you can email it to me at: flora dot ge at microsoft dot com)?
Thanks,
Flora

Hello Flora
Thank you for getting back to me on this.
Yes the theme is pretty messed up to the point that editing is almost impossible (dark text on fdark background). The blog is located at http://www.mytodayscreen.com
For you reference, I have attached 3 screenshots, the first 2 are mine and the third (the right one) being my friends. What is interesting is that when I keep updating the theme, it sometimes switches between the 2 which are mine but I never get what my friend does.
Mine: http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wlwminebj6.jpg
Mine 2: http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wlwmine2ly5.jpg
Friend: http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wlwfriendbq5.png
Any suggestions Flora?Tuesday, June 3, 2008 2:06 AM -
I tried to uninstall the application and deleting all the files I could find and even restarted my computer a few times before I tried to install a fresh copy of WLW but that did not help.
Any suggestions or how can I remove an account completely? WLW seems to have a really good memory and this is not such a good thing in my case.Tuesday, June 3, 2008 5:17 PM -
One of your screenshots is our plain editing surface, which we fall back on if template detection fails. You can choose to edit in this mode by going to View menu and unchecking "Edit using Theme".
You can delete from the Tools -> Accounts dialog. However if theme detection for your blog is not working properly on your machine deleting old files will not help.
From your screenshots it looks like your friend is on Vista and you are on XP. Can I ask if you are using IE6 or IE7?
Thanks,

I am also not getting my TypePad theme to show up. On the earlier build of Writer (14.0.8050.1202), everything worked fine, but the 2009 release (build 14.0.8094.206) is busted. This is par for the course of MS release proocesses. Did the so-called final build pass acceptance tests? I also notice that the installer for the released build is quite different than earlier builds.
Also, the earlier build is running on my xp machine and the late build is running on a Vista machine.Monday, March 16, 2009 10:37 PM -
Hello, I have the same problem with non-beta Windows Live Writer 14.0.8064.206 cs.I described it on another post: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/writergeneral/thread/f3af59ca-d462-4015-a918-17e60986e5bb. I see that everything is the same like in your cases: Windows XP, WordPress.I hope we will find any solution of this issue, it is really annoying.MarekThursday, March 26, 2009 1:07 PM
