Startup issue after adding a BUY or SELL transaction. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using the Sunset edition for many years with no problems untin now.  I use two different files and this problem only occurs on one of them.  My large file has about 1000 bond investments with about 10,000 transactions.  The file size is about 100K.

Here's the problem.  If I add a buy or sell transaction when running the large file and then close the program, when I start it up again, when I get to the MY MONEY screen the program shuts down.  If I just add an interest payment transaction, I can shut it down and restart with no problem.  If I load the smaller file instead, I can add buy and sell transaction and restart the program with no problems.  This leads me to conclude I have a file problem, not a Program problem.  however I don't see how adding a BUY or SELL transaction could trigger the problem.

I have tried doing a Quick Repair and Standard Repair from inside the program after adding the Buy or Sell order and the repair runns to completion but doesn't affect problem.  When I do the Standard Repair the log says that there is no problems to fix.

I tried running the SALV.EXE repair program without the program running.  he first time I did this it ran to completion but didn't fix the problem (ran it on a .mny file that wouldn't load.  The second time I tried it, the repair program wanted a password and wouldn't proceed.

I have nearly 20 years of transaction so I need a FIX.  Help would be appreciated.

I am using Windows 10 and have been for a number of years.

  • In my experience there is unfortunately no fix for this kind of problem. The best you can hope to do is to restore from a backup of the Money file taken before the issue began and then enter any transactions required to bring the file up to date.

Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear but it does underscore the absolute necessity of retaininig mutiple generations of Money file backups so that you can roll back to a working file when something like this happens.

  • I suggest you open any file you can, such as Sample.mny.
You could  do that by going to your Money install folder
and right-clicking Sample.mny, and choosing Open. Or just open
    your smaller file.
Go to Tools->Settings->ProgramSettings and set the
    (GeneralDisplay:)StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountList.
    Close Money.

Then open the problem file once or twice.

    Then Tools->Settings->HomePageDisplaySettings and Remove the
Investment Performance module. If you still have a problem, remove
everything. If the problem goes away, you can add things back until
the crash does not happen. Add back in the other things you want
on the home page. Let us know which was the problem module.
