UPS/WHS: Where has the Alarm tab gone from Power Options RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed an APC Back-UPS CS-650 for my WHS and am pleased to say it worked out of the box and communicated well via the USB.

I then went to write a script on the WHS to trigger some actions in the event of a power failure.  Going to Power Options under control panel presented me with an Alarms tab that allowed me to run a script upon a certain power event being reached.

I now find that the Alarm tab is gone from Power Options and I am instead presented with a tab called UPS that shows now Manufacturer (nor does it let me select one) and a warning sayingthe UPS service is currently stopped.  APC's PowerChute software alos running on the WHS reports all is connected and working fine.

I guess I've lost the Alarm tab since the WHS no longer knows about the battery.  How do I get it back, please?

No, the battery is still there.  The problem is you installed the APC software which overrides the OS tools that monitor the battery.  If you uninstall the APC software and reboot the server, the other tabs should return.

(Also, FYI, note that logging into the server desktop for any reason, including configuring your battery backup, is unsupported.)
