Custom plugin or Out of the box workflow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am trying to update the status on the account form. So, I have one to many relationship between account and contacts. So, if any of the contacts =inactive. Change value on account form status to inactive. Can we do this with a out of the box workflow in crm 2015.

    Thanks

    Jose

  • Hi Jose,

YES, you can do this via plugin or workflow using custom code.

You need to check whether there are any inactive contacts under the Account,
If yes - then update the account status to Inactive.

  • Hi,

Just a thought, do you want to disable the account if one of the contacts associated with the account is disabled?

You can't write plugin that runs anytime you want, in that case you need a workflow that can be started as an on-demand wf. However you can't run checks on multiple records in a wf so you are sort of stuck here. What you can do is make a wf that triggers on disable on the contact and then disables the parent account, or write a plugin that does the same.

  • You can do this OOB with CRM workflow.

    • Create a workflow on the Contact record to trigger when status changes.
    • The first step in the workflow should check the Contact status and if it = Inactive the next step will set the related Account status = Inactive

My concern with this concept is that an Account can have many contacts.   I don't not recommend setting the account status to inactive simply because a related contact is set to inactive.
