Genuine copy of Vista suddenly gives me an error

Question
-
Hello, I have had my copy of Windows Vista for 6 months and everything has worked fine. When I turned on my computer this morning, it did a disk check before Windows started up. After it was done, and I logged onto Windows, it told me that my copy of Windows was not genuine and I may be a victim of a counterfeit. I tried the phone activation, and the Microsoft representative gave me activation code and it did not work, it told me the code was invalid. I feel like I am out of options, especially since I am locked out of my computer and cannot access the start menu. Any help would be greatly apprecated. Thanks in advance.

Hello avsfan987,
The only error I see on your Diagnostic Report is that Vista is not Activated.
Would you please try calling the Activation call center again. Be sure to be at the computer when you call and to read back all the numbers the Activation Rep gave you and make the Rep confirm that you have entered them, into Vista, correctly. Please also make sure to complete the Activation process, in Vista, before you hang up, so if you run into any problems, the Activation Rep can help.
Thank you,

Ok, I called again, had the number repeated to me, and the same thing. I have it written down, and each of the three times I've called it's always been the same. When I told the representative that it says the number was invalid she just gave me the number to customer support. I tried calling that and they sent me to Dell, and it's been a big mess, no matter where I go nothing seems to help. I don't know why the activation is not working and I feel very confident that I have heard the number they gave me correctly.Wednesday, March 19, 2008 10:32 PM

Hi avsfan987,
I am very sorry for the troubles you are having. I would like to help, but I would need your full product key, but it's a Very Bad Idea to post your Product key on a public forum.
Therefore, I would like you to create a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 The support is by email, so you don't have to post your Product Key on the forum.
Sorry I couldn't be more help,
Darin Smith
