Parameter name: format on crm4.0

Question
-
we have had CRM 4.o working for a while, a few years now.
its Currently running on 64bit 2003 server with SQL 2005.
long story, BUT, we are trying to run specific things on it, and as they dont work, we have been advised that even thou its designed for a 64bit system, its "best" to run it on a 32bit server.
so i am setting it up on a 32 bit 2003 server. to see if the advise i have been given is correct.
I backed up the orignal database and imported it into the new system, i can see all the data there, but when i try and import the Organiseation from Deployment Manager i get the follwoing error.
"Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: format"
I have searched far and wide, and have not been able to find what is causing the error.
any help would be apprciated.Monday, October 12, 2009 3:59 AM

OK,
Here is the scoop, after not finding any answers here or anywhere else on the web, this is what i did.
On the 32bit Server, i deleted the database from the "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio",
Went back to the current live 64bit CRM server, created a NEW backup of the database, copied that to the New CRM 32bit server.
opened "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio" on the 32bit server, and imported it again.
Started the SQL Server agent on the 32bit server,
Opened Deployment Manager on the 32bit server, Right clicked on Orgasizations and selected "imported organisation"
remapped the user accounts, making sure the CRM Admin was mapped to the domain controller.
then it worked,
its exactly what i did before, the only thing i can think of was that the original backup of the CRM database was corrupt.
anyway, issue resolved, thank to all for your help.- Marked as answer by OutaCtrl Tuesday, October 20, 2009 4:56 AM

Hi,
I definately recommend 64bit for both crm and sql 2005. I think performance is much better. Only glitches might be some 3rd party addons that don't work in 64bit, but no adays there are very few of them.
As for your import --
-are you on UR 6
-using a domain admin account
-mapped the loggoned user wiht a user that is an admin in the db?
Please post the import log around where you get the error msg.

I have not seen any issues with 64bit (CRM or MS SQL).
Might want to ask a few more questions before spending time switching to 32bit. I would guess this is not your issue.

Thanks for your comments everyone,
both the 64bit and 32 bit servers have update rollup 6
I am logged into the server as the Domain Admin,
When i import the organisation, shen i get to the User mapping section, i select, "Keep Exsiting user mapping's" and i do get a small error as there are some accounts listed that have been disbaled, and there AD accounts deleted.
i proceed past the error, which is "there was an error during the user mapping" and from the list of users, i make sure that the CRM Admin account is mapped to use the domain admin account.
We want to stay with the 64 bit server, but i am just trying to get this second server to a state that is identical to the 64bit, so that i can see if we get the same issues, so when the 3rd party companies say "oh, its a 64bit issue, not our issue" i can say, "really, cause we have the same issue with both"
thanks again for your help.
oh, one more thing sorry,,,
the 64 bit server has had update rollup 4, 5 and 6 installed,
the 32 bit has only had 6 installed,
do they include all updates in 4 and 5 in update 6? or is it best install all 3?Tuesday, October 13, 2009 12:54 AM -
All you need is to install update 6 - it includes all others.

When doing an import organization crm does a good job on logging. Pls post the import log that has this error or part of the log with this error.

ok, (this is not going to make me look good...)
i had a look in the CRM directory and subfolders for any *.txt or *.log files and didnt find any.
also looked inthe SQL directory, found a few but non that looked like ther were relating to an org import from what was within them.
where would i find them?Friday, October 16, 2009 4:38 AM -
