Windows Home Server Back Up Freezes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased a home server with WHS 2003 installed. When I try to back up one of my laptops it goes to 17% and just stops. The progress shows it at 17% for days and eventually I have to cancel it. I am running Vista 64 on that laptop. The others I have that I run XP on I have no problems backing up. Any ideas?

  • A good place to start is to run Chkdsk on each of the partitions on your laptop. File system errors can cause problems with WHS backup.

  • As a further troubleshooting step, can you isolate the problem to one partition? If you have multiple partitions on the computer in question, reconfigure the backup to exclude some of them and try again. Eventually, can you narrow it down to one problematic partition?

  • I've tried that several times but it hasn't found anything.
