Course 6231B (Maintaining a Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2 database) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just completed the 6231B course and am thinking about doing the certification. I have few questions on this.

    1. I downloaded the lab s from the microsoft web site, but it doesn't say how to do the initial setup. I cannot do the lab excercises in my home pc. Could any one help is setting this up.

    2. When I checked the microsoft site, there is no certification exam for 6231B course. Only one I could find was exam 70-432. Is this the only certification that I could do for this course?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Donsls,

you have downloaded a SQL server course. did you download it from the MCT Download Center? if so you will have a setup guide as well. I think course 6231B which s the newer verion focussing on SQL Server 2008 R2 labs are to be setup on a Hyper-V based machine (Windows Server 2008 R2)

talking about exams 6231 along with 6232 will help you prepare for exam 70-432 and 6231 along with 2778 will prepare you for 70-433.

all the very best and let me know if you need help in setting up the lab

  • Confirmed: Version B of 6231 does indeed run under Hyper-V. It requires hardware level 6 (with 8 GB RAM) to run 3 virtual machines available at the MCT download center (it is a 3 GB download approximately). The setup guide is in file "6231B-ENU-SetupGuide.zip", which contains an 18-page PDF document explaining the process. If you downloaded all of these files from the download center, just open the PDF and follow the instructions.

  • Even though the labs in the MOC course are only available from the training center while you are taking your course, there are other free labs that you can do in order to prepare for your exam. Take a look at the Technet Virtual Labs here:

  • Thanks for the information. I downloaded the labs from the following link :

    httpL//www.microsoft.com/learning/companionmoc

I cannot download from the MCT download site, because I don't have a user id and password.

  • Hi Donsls, From that location you will only be able to download the MOC companion Guides or only the softcopy of the MOC (specific part or student guide) and not the VHD's or the Virtual labs. If you are a MCT you can download the labs from https://mcp.microsoft.com/mct download center

  • I am not an MCT, so don't have an MC ID and access code. It's unfortunate that I cannot do the labs before the exam.
