Is there a way to hide or remove the locked field (key) symbol? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there an option to not display the key symbol in CRM 2011?

I think it could be done through java scripting but would prefer not to have the keys hide after the form is loaded.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Vicki,

Are you talking about the key symbol that appears when you apply field level security or are you talking about the red padlock against a field when in the form designer?

There's no supported way to hide the key symbol if you are using field level security except by turning off field level security for those fields in question.

  • Hi Vicki,

There is no supported way as mentioned by Rob. But you can always put script to not show the field all together along with Field Level Security. This way you achieve the same result in supported way.

    Hope this helps.

  • Or if you want to avoid jscript, add a new form that doesn't include the field and assign the relevant security role(s).

  • Thanks for the responses.  We still need to show the secured fields on the form, but have one group (by security) that needs half of the fields read only and the other half editable, and another group that needs half read only and the other half editable.  Basically these two groups are not allowed to edit the others' fields but need to see them.

  • Hi Vicki,

OK, so the short answer is no, you can't remove the key symbol in a supported way. I'd avoid any unsupported methods, especially in light of the form changes expected in the next major release.
