Windows Vista not accepting activation key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and yesterday 3/4/11 my computer started displaying the "Activate Windows now" message asking me for my product key. I have had this computer since '07 and it came with Vista pre-installed. I entered my product key from the bottom of my computer and it came back invalid.

I have read through many posts and ran the diagnostic tool. My Diagnostic report is pasted below. What should I do now?

For some reason, your OS is unable to see the SLIC table that should be present in the BIOS.
The solution is to change the Product Key to the one on your COA sticker.
You say that when you tried that, it 'came back invalid' - at what point did you get the 'invalid' message? From the looks of it, it was before attempting to activate the Key. If that's the case, then you typed it wrong - it's very easy to mis-read the characters, so use a bright light, and a magnifier.
Once you get the right Key in, you'll probably have to activate by phone.
