Windows Vista Build 6002 This copy of Windows is not genuine (64-bit) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've read similar posts here with this problem, but the solutions I'm finding are not working for my 64-bit computer. I've had this computer for over 3 years, and of course the activation code on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop is completely worn off. This black screen and message in the lower right corner appeared randomly when I restarted my computer after travel this weekend. Help please!

  • That looks reasonably clear.....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Post a new MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • The problem appears to be in the Licensing Store - please try the following.....

Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.

    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'

    5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type: net start slsvc

    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    11) Restart your computer twice.

You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).

Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

  • I already tried this. My computer is a 64-bit, and typing %windir%\system32 doesn't redirect as it should, it just loads the search results for %windir%\system32  instead. What else can I do?

  • You need to change your Default browsert back to Internet Explorer - boot to Safe Mode, and use Internet Options to do so, then reboot back to Normal mode and follow the instructions.

  • Alright. I followed the instructions, restarted twice, but I can't enter the COA key because everything on the sticker on my laptop is worn off

  • You have other problems, anyhow, which would prevent the Key from 'taking' until they are solved.

Please log in  and downnload (and Run) the Farbar Service Scanner - it will create a report which you can copy and paste into your reply here....

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Run it, and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.
