SYS Volume failure... RRS feed

  • Question

  • What should be done to prepare for an SYS volume failure?  It is every bit as likely to fail as any of the drives used in the system, yet if it fails all is lost.  I would like to see a GOOD plan for backing up and restoring all of the data on the physical volume where SYS resides.

One solution might be a second copy of SYS volume on the server that could be booted from in the event of a failure.  I'm looking for ideas and I've heard a few, but none of them seem like they fit the character of WHS as I see it.

  • Search is your friend  This subject has been discussed a lot in the forums, I won't try to reproducer it all here.

I'd agree a way to backup user details etc. would be great, I'm hoping something might come out of the add-on competition.

  • I did search sys volume and found nothing.  I was sure it had been discussed but could not prove it with a search result.
