Office 2007 suddenly asking for product key, which it claims is invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running Office Standard 2007 for several years with no trouble. Following a reboot today, office is prompting me for a product key. I retrieved the product key from the original retail packaging (Military Appreciation Edition purchased at an Army PX) but when I input the key, it tells me it is invalid. Why has this started and how do I fix it?

    Thanks

I see that you have two installations of Office – Standard and Pro.
It’s possible that each is confused by the other’s presence.
Best thing would be to uninstall both, then run the cleanup tool, then reinstall your licensed version of one or the other.
For details, you should post in the Office Answers forums, where the experts hang out.

  • Thanks -- interesting; I don't remember installing the Pro version unless it was preinstalled and I opted for the cheaper standard version.

I will turn to the office forums -- thanks for the redirect.
