MS Money 2003, back-up on a usb 16G flash RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm running MS Money 2003 on Vista premium. runs great but it will allow me to backup only on a 2G flash.

I want to backup on a 16G usb flash but its telling me that disk full insert another disk. the 16G has more than 3/4 of the space empty. There are no patches or fixes to download.

It is a "feature".  Money 2005 is the same.  Just buy a few 1GB or 2GB USB sticks and keep them just for your Money backups.

  • Two other workarounds are to fill up the USB drive with whatever so there is less than 2 GB of freespace, or to partition the drive to give you a 2 GB partition.

The better option may be to upgrade to Money Plus Deluxe Sunset from Money 2003 Premium. You would give up direct download of quotes and statements. You would gain an enhanced backup system that can keep a programable number ( 0 .. 99) of both upon-exit and scheduled backups that are each timestamped in the filename. Plus the 2 GB problem goes away.

  • A variation on what Cal has suggested: use TrueCrypt to created a 2GB (or less) filesystem on the USB drive. Bonus: your backup will be encrypted.
