Credit card is not accepted RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to renew my subscription, and the billing website says:

The Credit Card that you have provided could not be authorized. Please provide the correct information for your payment method.

I've tried with several cards - I also called my credit card company, and they said that Microsoft successfully authorized my credit card each time.

Also, the lack of real support contact methods (not even email) is very anoying.

    Thanks.

  • Is there any changes on your credit card? Your old card might have expired. You might need to update your billing information?

Log-in to https://billing.microsoft.com, log-in using your subscription Live ID.

Try this one to reach support.

  • That is exactly what I'm trying to do! The old card has expired, and when I try to enter a new card (any new card), I get this message. Like I said, the card is being accepted (I called my credit card company, and they see the authorization successful), so it's something on your end. Please take care of it.

  • Jenny,

We are fellow customers, not Microsoft support.

You should contact support for help with this:

  • Hi Steve,

I understand you are not Microsoft, but is there another way to contact them? I have the same problem - tried to get in a situation, where I can explain my problem and get a solution. But you referenbce do not help, as this do not provide an e-mail, where to contact them. I have  as the others also tried different creditcards etc. I am now in the situation, that I cannot renew my subscription, and will have to find another product, which can satisfy my needs, and I bet, that they will have no problems accepting my money. I am a bit surprised, that microsoft do not accept payments from PayPal or alike.

This is not a satisfactory way to handle their customers.

    Kind regards

  • The FAQ post for how to contact support provides instructions on how to contact support. If your subscription can be validated, you will be able to contact them via email, chat or phone. If not, the FAQ also explains how to submit the request as a trial user to reach support without validation.

The most common reason for the credit card not being able to be authorized is if the credit card details includes punctuation such as dashes, etc. Another reason would be that the card is issued from another country than the address of your subscription.

  • I have had this issue for about a month, and while the Zune support people have been super friendly, there is still no resolution for us.  We have four Zunes in our household, one credit card, and this is impacting all four of us.  I have a support case open and am supposed to be awaiting a call back to see if the support people have been able to talk with anyone at Microsoft.  Sigh.

  • What is the exact same problem, CaymanSMC?
I'm sorry that your experience with support hasn't gone well. Do you have any case IDs that I can forward to support management?
If you are in North America, try this number for billing issues:

     1-866-672-4551

If you are getting an error about your credit card not being able to be validated, double check the card number and also your name/adress fields, making sure that you are not entering any punctuation at all in any fields - just letters and numbers.
It is also possible that your card is not a supported type. For example, a Gift Card, although it is identified as Visa or M/C, cannot be used for subscriptions.
And, finally, if your credit card is based in another country, you may not be able to use it for a susbcription if it doesn't match your location information in the credit card form (for example a US credit card to a UK address).

  • I have made at least 8 calls to support. I have tried 3 different credit cards that all work (amazon, paypal...). When they try to enter the card for me they get a system error. I even purchased a zune points card but you cant use that to buy a zune pass. Sounds like sommething the FTC needs to look at .

    Support is awful

Are you having a problem with a OneCare subscription or a Zune subscription?

Are you referring to a OneCare subscription?

you cannot activate a new subscription any longer.

  • wow is all I can say, I have never read a more worthless forum in my life. I use both of my credit cards on a regular basis online and they always work. I have a regular credit card and and gift card and neither one of them work with Microsoft. I get the same error message. Everbody do everyone a favor and don't post an answer unless you know the solution, thanks. I just wasted 15 minutes of my life. I'm pretty sure no one else here wants to waste any more of their time trying to contact a worthless costomer support line. MICROSOFT SUPPORT HAS NO SOUL!!! Or any giant company for that matter.

Perhaps if you explained what "the same error message" is, you'd get some more guidance. On the other hand, since you are replying to a thread from 2008 that no longer applies, since OneCare subscriptions are not available, any answer in this thread (which was valid in 2008) does not apply to your situation.

I'll assume that you are encountering an error about the card being invalid for a specific Microsoft service or product you are looking to purchase/pay for. Go to https://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with the LiveID for your Billing account and check for the Help options available to you. Each service/product has their own path to customer service who can assist in completing your purchase.

If you do not already have a Billing account, then check for a Help or Support link on the page where you are trying to initiate the purchase from.
