Windows Updates refuse to start up RRS feed

    I think my Windows update is corrupt, recently Norton detected a virus named downloader which it could not remove. I have tried to remove it as per the antivirus instruction and I think it is gone.
    After this detection, Windows updates has not been working. I tried reinstalling it as stated on this site and when i tried running the dll files after the installation it could not run wuaueng.dll and said error 80070005.
    When I access start- run- services.msc - automatic updates, it says access denied and that a certain file cannot be found. it is the same with the BITS
    I use Windows xp home edition and I have an updated Norton Antivirus , I had also downloaded Regcure from the Microsoft site to solve the issue
    Hope this can be solved without having to format the system
