ZyXel Q1000z and getting remote setup for the Windows Home Server 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • HElP!!!!  I am needing help to get me remote setup to work with WHS 2011.  I have done port forwarding for 80, 443, and 4125 and no luck.

  • Firstly, as far as Remote access from the Internet is concerned, you actually only need Port 443 forwarded to your Server (for https:// access) and optionally Port 80 (http:// access - albeit the Dashboard will complain that your router is not working if not forwarded but you can still access it with https://). Go to www.grc.com and run ShieldsUp to confirm that the appropriate ports are shown as "Red" as "Open".

  • Thanks for responding.  I ran the ShieldsUp  and it identified the port 443 as being open it was shown in "Red".  This is the only port that was open.  Any other thoughts?

  • If Port 443 is Open, you should be able to access your site from an external location on https://xxx.homeserver.com - have you tried this and what was the result?

As you thought you had forwarded Port 80, but it does not show as "Open" then I assume it shows as "Stealth"? Remote access is set to "On" in the Dashboard?
