What Certification do you recommend? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have been making websites for quite some time with vbscript (approx. 8 years) and in the last year have finally stopped beign lazy made the jump to ASP.NET ;)

I don't think I am prepared for any certifications yet but that is my ultimate goal, some of the information on www.microsoft.com/learning can be pretty confusing.

I am looking for a broad certification that focuses on as many aspects of website design and development as possible since I am experienced in all areas, as well as creating and managing databases via SQL server but that I would put myself in the novice category.

Any input or advice on where I should start or a certification I should set in my sites as my ultimate goal would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
    Lori

  • Hi Lori,

You should look at exam 70-536 for starters.  That covers the .NET Foundations for version 2.0 and 3.5 and is a required exam for any of the developer certifications in the MCTS and MCPD tracks.

Once you complete that exam, you should look at exam 70-528, which is ASP.NET 2.0 or exam 70-562 which is ASP.NET 3.5.  This will get you certified as MCTS Web or MCTS ASP.NET developer.

To get the other broad coverage on designing, you will want to the take the MCPD certifications for the appropriate versions.  These are exams 70-547 (.NET 2.0) or 70-564 (.NET 3.5).

We do not have a certification that covers developer and SQL topics combined but you can look at our SQL Server certifications to get certified on those as well if that is your choice.
