Windows 7 Home Premium Activation Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed a copy Windows 7 onto my DELL laptop over Xmas 2010 and activated this successfully at the time and about 3 weeks ago 'Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not geniune' has appeared.

I have tried to re-enter the license and it gets rejected, and have also tried the Automated telephone line in the UK.

From the MGADiag tool and below are the results, it would be appreciated if anyone has an idea of what I can do.

Your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key.(all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

  • Thanks for the info Noel, very useful, especially the YouTube link.

I actually purchased my copy from Amazon, so I have contacted the seller to demand my money back.  I am not sure where Amazon stand on covering people who are conned, but it looks like I will have to check I guess.

I'll update here once I find out more.

    Cheers for now,

    Bryn

You're welcome - from what I've seen in these groups, Amazon are pretty good about chasing their marketplace 'partners' - but a lot will do a runner as soon as the first complaint comes in, and there's not a lot tat Amazon can do thereafter. It's still worth chasing both the vendor and Amazon for a resolution though, as you may get some satisfaction out of it.

Good news indeed - make sure that the vendor does indeed refund the cash, and that Amazon has logged the problem (otherwise, next time it happens, they have to start the process again), so that they can monitor the vendor.

Good Luck with your new installation - please feel free to post a report once the Key is installed so that we can check it.

  • Evening all....

My enthusiasm has got the better of me, this was evident when I came to install the new software and realised I am not sure how to do it!

Would you be so kind to advise how this is done please?  I'm hoping it isn't a new install and there is some way of inputting the new code?

    Many thanks,

    Bryn.

  • Hold fire.....I have found it.

I tried to re-enter the new product key and it didn't like it, third time it was fine....must be a lack of attention on a Friday night.

Thanks again, I will watch for that refund.

Hi there, how does this look?

You need to use Manual Validation to get rid of that error
    ...but otherwise it looks OK

    Good Luck
