image formats supported RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the HD XMLspec file, it says this:

I thought that the images were supposed to be HD Photo format.

    Will .hdp or .wdp work??

Are there other formats that will work?

  • The hdmake tool that we provide only produces .wdp, but the control supports reading .jpg, .wdp, .tif, .png, .bmp tiles.

In addition for smaller images that don't require a tiled pyramid (<20 MegaPix) and that aren't spherical or cylindrical, you can just specify an image file to the control instead of an xml file.

  • Sorry, I'm a touch confused, and want to be sure I understand.  There are 3 times that we need to get the formats right:  input to hdmake, output from hdmake, and input to hdview.

I think I understand your previous post to say that hdmake will read jpg, wdp, tif, png, or bmp files.  And that output of hdmake is only wdp.

What I'm not certain of are the formats that HD View will read.

  • HD View supports reading .jpg, .wdp, .tif, .png, .bmp images.  These can be tiled images or non-tiled images.

If using non-tiled note that HD View will download the entire image before displaying anything, which for large images can lead to slow start-up time and large memory usage.
