Dear club157,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum. Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help. Thank you again for posting your diagnostic results. 2 things you can try.
Windows Product Key Update Tool:If you have a Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for Windows XP affixed to your system, then there is a strong likelihood your system is licensed to run Windows XP.
Windows Product Key Update Tool & Detailed Instructions:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/pkuinstructions.aspx
The Product Key Update Tool was designed to update a non-genuine Product Key previously used to activate Windows XP with a known good Product Key.
If you have antimalware or firewall programs installed, please make sure these programs are set to allow the Product Key Update Tool to have full access to the Internet.
The second is telephone support.
From the Desktop:1.
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.
Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.2.
Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.
3.
Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.
4.
Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.
Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.5.
When activation is completed and you receive the following message:
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows
Then click OK.
Also you may reference the following site for various Telephone Activation Centers:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851
For more information on how to activate Windows XP see the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890
Thank you for visiting the WGA program forum.

Thanks, Rick,
I attempted the first suggestion.
I got to the point where I must enter the Product Key, but it tells me the Product Key is invalid for this system. I really don't know why, because it is the same number as the one on the side of machine.

I get this far but never get to see any phone numbers. It says "generating new installation ID" and then the next box has no options for me to call - no telephone numbers. There's a drop down box (Step "1") which is blank and Step "2" has no numbers.
