Doesn't Forum forbid him/her from mark as answer on his/her own post?

Question
-
I have seen more than once such post as marking on his/her own post.
I'm afraid it is a kind of masturbation or only for increasing own points.
Doesn't Forum forbid him/her from marking as answer on his/her own post?
I hope that marking as answer can be done only by a questioner who create a thread.

No, but user does not get point for mark own post as answer

Yes, by thread creator and moderators.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for you reply.
But I can hardly understand. Why moderators can mark as answer on their own post?
I have sometimes (rarely) supposed their answer is half correct, half incorrect.

Well that a different question but that's the way it works. You can also reply with you own thoughts / comments to thread. The FAQ for forums may be helpful.

Thanks a lot.
I'll reply with my thoughts / comments to thread, when question arises. FAQ you showed looks very helpful. I'll read it little by little.
Thank you, again.

Hi Dave,
I have my doubts about self-marking by thread creator, but I think self-marking by moderators should be outlawed, or perhaps outlawed for a minimum period (1 week?) after the posting. Currently, some moderators will mark their response as answer either immediately, or within a few hours. This effectively stops further responses in the thread, even if the answer is not correct, or not the full answer.
Thank you for you reply.

Hi Ashidacchi,
Well I believe that if one is confident enough that his/ her answer is correct whether it is an OP/ Moderator can mark their own answer.
Also if someone is marking their own answer only to increase the point by seeing the users profile points/ reputation.
Another is marking a post as answer will help other member having the same issue to find a solution. As I said earlier this depends on how much that OP/ Moderator is confident that the solution is marking is correct.
Alternate option is if the answer not the OP looking for but somehow the solution is helpful. So we can always vote it as helpful post.

I agree with you Richard.
What I also do before Marking as answer is visit OP's profile activity and see how often OP came back to forum. Some times it look like that after 15-20 days or 1 month later OP came back to the forum and Mark as answer. I think there is a 5 point difference Marking as answer by OP and by Moderator.
But hard decision has to take when sometimes OP's activity is showing in other forum but OP not coming to the thread that was open and whether or not issue is solved. So have to remind the OP multiple times if issue is solved then mark as answer the one that solved the issue. :)

Or you can do what I did.
If I see a marked answer to a question is incorrect (no matter it's self marked answer or not), reply to that answer and explicitly state why you think that "answer" is not really an answer to the question. If the moderators agree with you, they will unmark that "answer" as answer.
If you find some forum with less traffic (so there could be only one active moderator) that has moderator that keep marking his/her answer as answer, and don't unmark them when you told them, post the issue here and let the forum admins consider the issue.
