I am on Windows XP - NOT Vista or Server. Where is MY manually download file of the latest antimalware definition updates for Windows Live OneCare? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a registered, fully paid-up Windows Live OneCare user.  My operating system is Windows XP (32-bit).  My OneCare will not download antivirus updates.  I have followed all of the instructions to fix this, except uninstalling and reinstalling the software, which is very difficult on our home dial-up connection.  I am interested in manually downloading the updates, but the help information does not apply to my operating system.  It only applies to Vista and Servers.  I've copied in the Article ID below.  Where do I go to get the download file that is compatible with my operating system? Thanks.

  • OneCare is not designed to be updated manually, though it can be done.
If you have performed all of the troubleshooting short of a reinstall of OneCare, you also did not contact support.
I suggest doing so to resolve the issue.

What, exactly, happens when you click "check for updates" in OneCare?

to manually download and install updates for OneCare - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=958067

Select the link for 32 bit, which is what you are running. The reference to 32 *or* 64 bit downloads applies to Vista and OneCare for Server, but not XP - OneCare only works on the 32 bit version of XP.

  • Thanks for the reply.  FYI, I have contacted support. They answered today.  I'll be able to try the fixes at home this weekend. Right now, I'm at work.
