Emachines T2040 Motherboard fried/ How to validate new RRS feed

  • Question

  • The disks still spin and fan but no light, no beeps, etc.  I want to replace motherboard.

The dead one is an Imperial-GL with integrated video.

I only want to replace motherboard, use same disks, memory, floppy, keyboard, etc....

Will OS work with new motherboard? What are the steps to do it?

I have Windows XP Home Edition with emachines label in BLACK on the back of the tower.

This is the version that came with the computer.

    The product key is...XXXXX-XXXXX-TX3CW-8JJ7X-HKYBT

I have the restore disks...I have heard Emachines was notorious for bad motherboards, etc...

Gateway who took them over are bad too...check famous consumer mag for verification

    thanks

  • If Windows XP was preinstalled by eMachine and you
do not replace the defective motherboard with the exact
eMachine replacement, your eMachine OEM version of Windows
XP is not going to activate since it is looking for the eMachine BIOS.
All you can do is to purchase a conventional "Full Version" of
Windows XP and proceed with a "Repair Install".

A preinstalled OEM version of Windows XP cannot be used
with a different type of motherboard.  The license is tied to
a specific motherboard model and BIOS and cannot be transferred.
