GPS DataSet Playback RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am developing an app in c# that plays back GPS data to a MapPoint 2010 map. The GPS data, with latitude, longitude and time stamp are pulled from an access database and loaded into a dataset. I just want to stream through the dataset and 'playback' the truck moving along the road.

I have tried a pushpin and moving the pushpin to the last GPS data point, but it seems very slow. Is there a better way for MapPoint to playback GPS data, showing the vehicle travel a route, much like http://www.glympse.com ?

    Thanks.

  • If I understand correctly, you are trying to use the pushpin to create a simple animation?

If so, you could use every other coordinate for a faster playback?

  • Thanks Richard. Pushpins seemed like the best solution since you can make custom pins, but if there is a better way to draw out an animation that would be great.

We tried changing the GPS to only draw when the direction and or speed changes, much like your idea to only plot every other point, but the animation still seemed to slow with every point.

Is moving a pushpin around the map the best way to 'watch' a route play back?

    Thanks

  • I suspect it will be your best option. Be sure to simply update the location of the pushpin (to move it), and not to destry & recreate a new pushpin.

The only other option would be to draw a little shape (eg. a circle or line), but I think this would be slower than a simple pushpin move.
