EX 475 Hard Drive Purging RRS feed

  • Question

  • Will be selling my old EX475 but need to be sure the hard drives are totally purged of 2yrs information before the Home Server software is reinstalled. What's the best way to do this?  TNX.

  • Use a tool which will do a secure erase on the drives. Do this for all drives, choosing a reasonable number of overwrite passes (your data isn't really that worth stealing),  then perform a server recovery following the instructions in the manual. Stop after the recovery itself, before adding clients, installing the connector, etc.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Might be easier to just replace the drives with a single smaller one for resale and keep the originals here for sever reuse. TNX.
