Automated Email Tracking Tokens: What is Correlation Method? RRS feed

    We're on CRM 2013 Service Pack 1 Rollup update 2. 

    Our users are using the CRM-Outlook plugin. Outlook is version 2013.

    We have some users whose email for some reason tracked into wrong records. At first we're suspicious about the Smart Matching Correlation that's not working very well but it looks like something else entirely. All of these emails have the same Tracking token even though they have different subjects, recipients, etc. 

    We're also suspicious about the 'CorrelationMethod' values in the Email database. According to the MSDN article https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt608007.aspx these are all the default values:

    correlationmethod

    Description: Shows how an email is matched to an existing email in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. For system use only.

    Default Options:

    0 : None
    1 : Skipped
    2 : XHeader
    3 : InReplyTo
    4 : TrackingToken
    5 : ConversationIndex
    6 : SmartMatching
    7 : CustomCorrelation

    Does anyone know how does the correlation method value has anything to do with the email tracking token?

    Some of the emails with the wrong tracking tokens has correlationmethod = 3 for "InReplyTo". This we don't understand because the recipients of the emails don't match at all.
