Activated copy fails validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried to validate my Vista Home Premium, but every time I do I get "Windows must be activated before validation can determine if this copy of Windows is genuine."

Needless to say, my copy is activated.

I have entered my key to reactivate online and it was successful, but still I get the same message when trying to validate. Now I have a "This copy of windows is not genuine" on the desktop and popups stating the same. Help!!

  • Hello,

If your System Properties window is showing that you're activated and online validation says you're not, please

    1. Phone activate.  You can start by typing "slui 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter. Follow the prompts through phone activation (be ready for lots of numbers) and then reboot.

    2. Once you're done, please revalidate by clicking on "Validate Windows" here: www.microsoft.com/genuine

Let me know if that works.  Thanks a lot!

  • I just wanted to let you know that this fixed my issue that started today.  I clicked on Properties on Computer to get my Computer Score, and I see "Get geniune..." instead of the blue emblem that was there before.  Clicking on that link sent me to the Microsoft Geniune webpage, I clicked Validate Windows, and it told me windows needed to be activated first.  Computer says it is already Activated - and I decided to just restart the computer. Big mistake, computer informs me that my Windows is not Geniune, features disabled etc.  I called Microsoft, talked to four different people, one told me to email support.  I finally come here, as a last resort while I wait to get an email response from microsoft and found your steps. Activated through the phone proceedure, restarted the computer, visited www.microsoft.com/genuine and validated once again, this time it passed - restarted the computer, and all the features that were disabled are back.

    Thank you,

I just wish this proceedure was listed on the site or in the calls I made to Microsoft.
