Unable to Verify my genuine copy of microsoft office software RRS feed

  • Question

  • I hope someone can help with my dilemma!  My husband purchased genuine Microsoft office software on a student deal on the internet.  The disc's arrived and we have loaded these onto the computer.  We have somehow misplaced our product key for this product (as we have moved house) and my husband has deleted the email that we received the product key off the computer.  I contacted Microsoft and I was given an email address and received a general response back.  I would like to be able to fix this problem sooner rather than later if possible....

HELP!!!!  Every time I open Office programmes, a message comes up saying the software is not genuine.  Is there another way of being issued a product key so that the software we have paid for actually works properly?  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Kind regards,

    Vicky

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 - 101 Not Activated
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.7.105.35

That is telling us that you have two installations of Office 2007 on the computer.

The first is Office Enterprise, which unfortunately was installed with an Invalid Volume Licensing Key.  Office Enterprise is an edition of Office sold only to larger businesses, schools, and governments, and it is a widely pirated copy of Office because, as with your installation, there are programs available that can generate Product Keys that will permit its installation.

The second is Office Ultimate, which I will assume is the copy that you mentioned that your husband acquired thru a student deal.  Right now that one is showing as "not activated."  Was that called the "Ultimate Steal", as in this link?  http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx

Here's what to do.  Run the Magical Jellybean keyfinder utility http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ and record the Product Key for Office Ultimate.  (No use writing down the Product Key for Office Enterprise, it''s no good.)  Note that it is possible to install Office 2007 suites without entering a Product Key, so if you installed Office Ultimate with no key, obviously the keyfinder will not be able to find it! :-)   If you did install Office Ultimate without a Product Key, you will have to contact the entity that sold Office to you to ask them to resend the email with the Product Key.

Next, open Control Panel, then click Programs and then Uninstall a Program, then choose Office Enterprise.  Allow the program time to fully uninstall and when that's done, restart the computer.

Next, hit Start, All Programs, select any Office 2007 program (I always use Word for some reason) and start it up.  Next follow these steps:

    Word

    1. Click the Microsoft Office Button Button image, and then click Word Options.
    2. Click Resources, and then click Activate.
    3. If your software is activated, you receive the following confirmation message:

This product has already been activated.

If your software is not activated, the Activation Wizard starts. Follow the instructions in the Activation Wizard.

Your Office Ultimate should start up the Activation Wizard since it the mgadiag report is showing it is not activated.

    Once activated, close Word.

Then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine, and on the left click the Validate Office button.  Your copy of Office Ultimate should validate.  If it does not, rerun the mgadiag utility and post the fesh report here and we'll have another look at it.

  • Dan,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!  You are a DIAMOND!

The product key had been entered previously, so I have made a note of it now!  I have also uninstalled the Office Enterprise.  It's running like an absolute dream now - I can't thank you enough!

I hope you have a great day and it's great that there are people like you out there helping people like me (one's that don't have a clue about computers!).

    Take care!
