re: Troubleshooting Live Alerts...

Thanks for posting this troubleshooting guide.
Ok... I've gone through the troubleshooting sticky and here's what I've come up with.
1.) The hotmail account is over 10 years old. I've got an email stored in there from the last millenium.. It's not a validation issue
2.) Check.. I see little green checks next to Microsoft Community Forums, Microsoft Forums and TechNet forums.
3.) I've got Alerts turned on and the MS Community forums and Technet are supposed to be routed to Live Messenger and Hotmail while the Microsoft Forums only go to Hotmail.
Note: I've looked at the Recent Alerts item on the left hand side of this site - and there are NONE in the last 24 hours - even though I replied to a test post I left in the sandbox with the Wolfie2k9 account. The 2k9 account managed to get an alert from the reply I left from Wolfie2k6.
4.) I even created an alternative Hotmail account and logged in as wolfie2k9. Alerts seem to work for that account after repeating steps 1 - 3.
Note: I've got 4271 emails that I've recieved from Live Alerts starting in January 2009 and going up to July 24th, 2009. I've stored all of them in a special folder. The sum total of email stored in my hotmail account is about 5573 to the tune of about 126.3 MB - no where near 5 GB. I'm still getting email from other sources. So I don't know why I'm not getting alerts...
What's the next step?

We made a lot of progress on the issue of notifications not going through. Now that they are, we face a new recent issue of the notifications being delayed anywhere from one to three hours. The team is actively working on the queue length issues and I will post back when we have a fix.

We're having issues with our aggregator job in the sql backend today and we'll be fixing this.
Once this is fixed, we'll be enabling further logging in our web servers to determine and isolate intermittent issue regarding to alerts.
Thanks.

Let me check our backend servers to verify your accounts. (Wolfie2k9 - working v.s. Wolfie2k6 - non working)

The next steps are to wait for our test team to figure out if your issues are related to the bugs they are looking into around alerts. I do want to ensure everyone understands that you cannot trigger an alert to yourself, so I assume that is not the problem and that in this testing you are trigging the alert from a different logged in live id than the one you are expecting the alert to be delivered to, right?

Correct... I created a new Live ID to log in with (Wolfie2k9) and posted to a sandbox forum. I then swapped back to Wolfie2k6 and replied. I then swapped back to the Wolfie2k9 ID and replied to it.
I got an alert on the Wolfie2k9 regarding the reply to the original post that Wolfie2k6 replied. I then replied to the post as Wolfie2k9 and checked for alerts on Wolfie2k6 - and there was nothing.
In other words - I followed the instructions in your post completely.
Now, I see stuff in my activities on My Profile. But when I log in to look at recent alerts, I see nothing. NO alerts in the last 24 hours. -

Hi Don.
Any news yet? I still experience issues. Alerting is working again (thanks) but the point one gets for answers is very slow and sometimes not working.

Good news, Bad News...
Good News: When I go to My Alerts: Recent Alerts I see the alerts I got in the last 24 hours or so. YAY...
Bad news: Still not seeing them on my hotmail account.. <sigh>
At the moment, your previous post saying it's fixed and should be working in 20 mins or so, was posted almost 5 hours ago. -

Hi,
I've been out of the office since last week. Anyhow, I'm looking into the problem with our dev's. We've added extra logging in our last release (8/3) and I'll be debugging the issue with our team.
The wierd part of this problem too is that for some users it intermittently works.
I'll post further updates on this thread.
Thanks

Here's the progress. I/We've been working with the live alerts team to determine intermittent failures for some users while others are not getting alerts at all. We've given the alerts team further information to debug the problem. We also found a minor issue at our end regard alerts when users are subscribing to threads. I've been talking about this bug to our team. No ETA on a fix. However, once confirmed on date, I'll reply back.
Thanks for your patience
