Larger home servers...interest? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've noticed that the majority of home server solutions tend to support 4 drives at best, often with I/O that is insufficient for multiple HD video streams.

Would there be an interest in a "high end" home server solution? Say..one that supported 8..or even 16 drives? Does it even scale that high? I would worry that it would be constantly "rebalancing" storage.....

  • WHS can scale but for larger systems DE doesn't scale as well as RAID5. DE with Duplication takes n*2 drives and RAID5 takes n+1 drives. There might be a market for large systems but it would only make sence for users that already have an assortment of drives or expect to have an assortment (constant upgraders).
