Loading Microsoft Money Sunset to a computer with with Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a long time (20 year+) user of Microsoft Money and currently are using Money Sunset (final free version) with Windows 8.1. I upgraded to Windows 10 in early August and found that Money would not work without using patches, etc. Since I am not a computer geek, I chose to revert back to Windows 8.1 where I remain right now. I follow this forum from time to time and I continue to see many people having problems using Money Sunset with Windows 10. In a couple of years I will probably need to get a new computer and that machine will probably not accept my final version of Microsoft Money Sunset. Since I use the Money program extensively to handle my financial affairs, budgeting, cash flow, net worth, taxes, etc. I am wondering if one of the experts here, Mr. Becker, Mr. Watson, or others could present a complete DETAILED step by step of what I need to do in Windows 10 to allow it to work with my Money Sunset? Thank you for your consideration. Stephen Cohen, Brookfield, Ct. USA.

  • Money Sunset works fine with Windows 10.  The only thing you need to do is replace your copy of mnyob99.dll with a patched version.  You can do that right now while you are running Windows 8.1.  Then when you upgrade to Windows 10 you won't need to make any changes.  The explaination of how to make the replacement is in the first "sticky" thread in this forum:

    https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d28d6921-1f01-430f-b33e-f5a3ec47077b/important-patch-for-money-plus-maybe-20062007-mnyob99dll?forum=money

Ameridan has more details on how to do the replacement at this page:

    https://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2012/12/02/windows-8-64-bit-version-compatibility-with-sunset-money/

where you will find a link to this page:

    http://www.mediafire.com/download/zj0amk06ax57cfg/mnyob99.dll

with the required download.  Note that if you get a new computer and have to re-install Money you will need to redo the mnyob99.dll replacement.

I recommend that you check Ameridan's blog if you run into problems in the future.  There's an ongoing discussion there about keeping Money going on Windows 10.
