How to enter product key on a dead page

Question
-
Hi,
When I start up the computer it goes through all the normal things then gets to where it should ask me to log on but instead it goes to a black page with "this version of windows is not genuine build 6001" and wont let me go any further. How do I enter my product key when it wont let me get past this page. Ive also tried starting in safe mode it does the exact same thing but it has safe mode in three of the corners of the black page
Thank you
Kendy

Everything that I can find about build 6001 is that it is a evaluation copy of Vista that has expired and you won't be able to use it. If someone else has further knowledge I am sure that they will post. The only workaround that I see is to purchase a retail version of Vista or Win 7 (if your computer supports 7) or revert to the original OS that came with the computer which will require a full reinstall of the OS and all programs in all probability. If otherwise, like the computer came with that version of the OS on it post back with the exact error message.Sunday, May 30, 2010 2:27 AM -
Im willing to try anything, but to be honest I have almost zero computer knowledge hence why I am in this situation because I didnt enter the product key the million times it asked me before (because of course I didnt know that it was on a stick underneath my laptop!)
So anything you can help me with would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much!

Click "Continue", clickthe "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in thisthread. If you do not have access to the Start Button:1) Login to Vista and click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.2) Type: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 into the browseraddress bar.3) A window will come up asking if you want to “Run” or “Save”, Select “Run”4) When the program runs, click the “Continue” button, then click the “Copy”button.5) Return to this threadhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/170b8e42-698c-41fa-b80f-5f0e95e8c9fa.6) In a reply post, paste the Diagnostic Report. Then we can see what's causing the problem, rather than speculating.--Noel PatonCrashFixPCNil Carborundum Illegitemiwww.crashfixpc.co.uk

Is there anything else i can do?Hmm - will it start in Safe Mode?To access Safe Mode, while the black/white POST screen is up during theboot, start tapping the F8 key about twice a second, and you should beoffered the Advanced Boot Menu - one option is Safe Mode with Networking.Take that option. Note that in the boot, you'll get a long list offilenames, and it will seem to freeze - leave it for at least 15 minutesbefore assuming that it has actually frozen! If that works, then you'll be able to download the tool, at least, though Ithink if it runs, it may not give all the details - but we can try! :)See if it runs - then you should also be able to post it from that PC.--Noel PatonCrashFixPCNil Carborundum Illegitemiwww.crashfixpc.co.uk

Noel, research error "build 6001". Apparently this is an evaluation version that has expired, or at least that is all I have been able to find out about that code. If you have other information that I am not privy to please post.Sunday, May 30, 2010 3:38 PM -
