invalid word programme RRS feed

  • Hi, I purchased a new pc from a well-known high street retailer, pre-loaded with Vista, Office, Word, etc. No discs were provided.
    I didn't get on with Vista, so deleted it and purchased a new copy of XP. Everything has been working perfectly.
    Now nearly two years later, I keep getting messages telling me that my Word is invalid, and I should spend £99 to buy a new copy.
    Why? I have already purchased it once for this computer.

    The report says you have a Blocked VLK, which means that (a) your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office XP Professional with FrontPage installed, and that (b) a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it.  A "blocked" VLK is one that was issued by Microsoft to a business, educational institution, or governmental agency for their exclusive use in accordance with a Volume Licensing Agreement.  (Note that such use does NOT allow the resale of such VLKs.)  However, because the VLK may have been reported lost, stolen, or compromised to the internet by the original keyholder, or because the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired, Microsoft has blocked the VLK from further use.

  • That's a nice non-answer! I did put that it was a new pc purchased two years ago, and that no disks were supplied, as the progs were pre-installed. Therefore my backup/reboot disks will also be invalid, so what's the point of reloading from them?
    OK, I have no intention of spending another £100 on a programme I already have, so I  think I'll delete it and go to Open office, which is free. Bye-bye.

  • Hello 2e0dtoeric,

    The form of priacy that your retailer engaged in is called "hard disk loading."  The retailer installs a bootleg copy of a volume licensing product and does not give you the genuine CDs or the Certificate of Authenticity that would always accompany an OEM or retail license for Microsoft Office.

    And I agree with your choice:  it's always better to run properly licensed software than to run unlicensed software.
