audio problem with windows 7 and XP in messenger

  I have windows xp, my friend has a brand new computer with windows 7. I can see and hear anybody with no problems, in messenger, Skipe etc. but when I connect with this friend, I can see and hear him Ok but with some echoes!! He cannot hear me at all, he can see me though. I have done all the test available and everything checked all right, any idea anyone??
