Have invalid Office..Want to install valid version RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an invalid version of Prof. Office 2007 that came with the computer already installed.  I have purchased a valid version and installed it but it never asked to be activated and acts like it doesn't exist.  in other words the invalid version still operates.  Ant suggestions?  Do I have to uninstall the invalid version? Thanks Mark

  • Hello mes2ix,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Professional 2007 - 101 Not Activated
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

As you wrote, your computer does indeed have two installations of Office.  You have a nongenuine volume licensing installation of Office Enterprise 2007, and you have a retail licensed installation of Office Professional 2007 which has not yet been activated.

Here's what to do (logging onto a Computer Administrator account, of course):

    1.  From the Add or Remove Programs applet of Control Panel, locate and uninstall Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007.  Restart twice after uninstallation is complete.

    2.  Next, from Start>All Programs, locate Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and click on Word 2007 to start Word.  When Word opens, you should be presented with the Activation Wizard to start activation.  Choose the option to do an automatic online activation.  When it completes, close Word and restart the computer once more.

    3.  Next, keeping all Office programs closed for the moment, use Internet Explorer and go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Office Professional 2007 should Validate normally.  Close IE.

    4.  Open Word and your other Office programs to ensure they are working normally.

    5.  Finally visit Microsoft Update to get all of the available Service Packs and Updates for Office.  Keep installing, restarting, and revisiting Microsoft Update until it reports that there are no more updates for Office available.

Post back to let us know how you did :-)

PS--it is possible that leftovers from the nongenuine installation of Office Enterprise 2007 may interfere with Office Professional 2007 validating correctly.  If that happens, just post back to let us know as we have a pretty good fix for that possibility.
