Malware service not starting - unsupported format not recognizable by One Care

Question
-
I have been receiving a message the past few days while my One Care status is Red stating that my Malware service is not of a supported version. The One Care firewall service also does not start automatically. When I manually start both, my status is still yellow, red and after a few minutes the Malware service stops again.
I have tried to run a full system scan for viruses, but that keeps crapping out. I have also defragged my hard drive and checked One Care for all updates. I am up to date of all versions.
I have a Sony VAIO with dual 2.4 ghz processors, 4 gig ram, and 80 gig hard drive. Nothing else is installed on the laptop (ie. other firewall or antivirus software that could result in a conflict)
Please advise.Tuesday, July 21, 2009 11:13 AM

Your description of the problem initially tells me that the Windows Security Center is alerting you and you ahve a red shield with a white x in it. If that is the case, then this thread explains the problem with the Windows Security Center and how to resolve it:

However, you then mention that OneCare is in Red and Yellow status. If the OneCare icon (the circle with the 1 in it) is in red or yellow status, then your have another problem, potentially in addition to or instead of the problem described in the above link. If that is the case, and both the firewall and antivirus are failing, I suggest contact support.

Thank you for the quick reply. You are right with the description of the Red shield with the white X. I will check out the thread you included and try to resolve this evening. Thanks again!Tuesday, July 21, 2009 12:43 PM
