Cannot create N:1 relationship between Customer Relationship and Contact RRS feed

  • I'm attempting to create an N:1 relationship with Customer Relationship (primary) and Contact (related) so I can put them as visible lookup fields on the Contact form, saving our client an extra click by having to click Relationships on the navigation pane.  But it doesn't list it on the select entity picklist.

    Could anyone explain why this is?  Or a workaround if possible?  Or do I have to tell the client we cannot do this?

    I assumed it was b/c there was already system created 1:N between these 2 entities, and you obviously cannot delete system created relationships.

    This is by design.

    There is no supported way of customizing this entity. You might be able to make changes in the database to make it customizable, but remember it's totally unsupported and not recommended. I would advise against it. You are better of creating a custom entity to handle this. Create your own customer relationship entity and do what ever you want to do.

    Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 uses the customer relationship entities to better describe the relationships between your customers (accounts and contacts) and the opportunities for new business with these customers. Many businesses must track complex relationships that include customers, partners, distributors, and contractors, all related to one another.
