Question

I have Windows Vista 32-bit. I was doing updates yesterday and everything was fine. Then this morning, I started up my computer and when I was on Yahoo, I got a warning message saying "Windows has to be re-installed". So I just X'd out of it and restarted my computer and after it was loading up, it said, "Activate Windows now or activate later". I cancelled that and then on my desktop, at the lower right hand corner it says, Windows Vista (TM), then under that, it says, Build 6002, and then under that, it says, This copy of Windows is not genuine! Here is the diagnostics I ran

C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(2007, 5) (null): 0xC004F012Hello, Amy
Judging by your report, it looks like you will need to reset the licensing store.
Try the following steps to reset the licensing store:If you have access to your start button:
1. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator.
2. Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
3. Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
4. Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
5. Type: cd %windir%\system32
6. Type: net start slsvc
7. Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
8. Restart your computer twice.
9. You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. Be sure to use the key from the sticker on the side or bottom of the PC and activate using the By Phone method.
If you do NOT have access to the start button:
1. Open an Internet Browser window.
2. Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
3. Find the file CMD.exe
4. Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
5. Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
6. Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
7. Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
8. Type: cd %windir%\system32
9. Type: net start slsvc
10. Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

Please repost YOUR problem to your OWN NEW thread, with a copy of the MGADiag report from YOUR affected computer - this avoids confusion for all.To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
