  • OEM SLP copies of Windows like yours need to link with the SLIC table in the BIOS in order to remain activated.  The manufacturer has provided a back up product key for when this fails.  Find the COA sticker affixed to the bottom of your computer or in the battery compartment.  Copy the product key.  Click Start, type "slui.exe 3" and hit Enter.  Follow the instructions.

  • I do that and I get an error Code: 0xC004F063 - The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

This computer was recently "reformated" at a repair shop and just trying to reactivate Windows.

You’ll usually only get that if you are re-entering the OEM_SLP Key, and not the Key from the COA sticker.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker?

  • ok, looking at the COA sticker is difficult.  Why they put it where they do on a laptop wears if off.  I can't read with the actual Key is, but the repair shop wrote down the number.  I have pulled up the computer specs from HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01892750&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=4041737&task=prodinfoCategory and it shows Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit which is what shows as installed.  (Windows 7 Build 7601)

  • As you can see, the COA key is not the same as the embedded one.  The embedded one, which shows in your report, is generic, specific only to the make and model, and cannot be entered manually.  That is the purpose of the COA key which is unique.
