Activate Windows Vista AGAIN RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had to replace my hard drive 6 months ago, and when Windows was reinstalled, I had to activate it.  I ended up calling Microsoft, and they charged me for a key code.  I was not happy.

Now, my new hard drive crashed (Gigabyte GT430, replaced for free thank you CompUSA), and now I have to activate Windows Vista again.

I downloaded the MGA tool that I just read about, and ran it, and clicked copy, and now I don't know what else to do.

    What do I do now?

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
      - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

What media did you use for the reinstall? If not the manufacturer's Recovery media, you should enter the Key you received from MS - your earlier COA Key will probably have been blocked.
