Non-Genuine and validation problem.

Question
-
Yesterday when I turned on my computer it said my copy of windows was not genuine, with the watermark in the bottom right of screen saying build 7600. (It is genuine, it is an Win7 64 OEM from 18month ago). When I try to re-validate through the control panel option 'Activate Windows' I get an error message saying "The specified module could not be found, Code: 0x8007007E".
This is the result of my diagnostic:

As it is an OEM I don't have a CD so I can't reinstall windows (as far as I know).
Cheers.

I did both scans and on the reboot it asked me to enter my product key, I did and it validated successfully, so it seems that it has worked out. Thanks a lot for the help, much appreciated.

Thanks for the detail at the head or your post - it may may troubleshooting easier, as the error message in the report itself is fairly generic.
Precisely becaue you have an OEM installation, you MUST have a 'CD' (it's actually a DVD) - or your supplier is breaking the terms of his contract with MS.
That said, please try the following, which may help isolate the cause or perhaps clear the problem.
Please first try recreating the Licensing Store.
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's caseReboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

I did the above but the Activation dialoge box did not aooear, instead I get an alert message saying windows had been altered and I needed to restore. I re-ran the diagnostic anyway but the only change was the "Cached Online Validation Code". This also occurred when I rebooted, as a message popped up saying that windows files had been altered and I needed to either reinstall widows or do a system restore.
I forgot to mention in my original post that I can't get access to the internet. I can connect to my wireless network but I it says there is no internet access. It is not a problem with the network as I am using the same network on my laptop to post this.
It turns out I did get a Win7 DVD with the computer, which I just found. Should I try and reinstall windows or are there other ways I can try and fix the problem?
Cheers

Please post the full report - it's very dificult to spot changes unless you know exactly what to look for.
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size
of the drive, so be patient! After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally
(possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFCSFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is foundSelect Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, typeSFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Post an MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

Thanks for that - Yes, everything looks fine now.
I must admit to surprise that the CHKDSK/SFC worked - I was rather expecting to have to dig deeper.
Did you doo anything else atall?

If I can ask a favour?
Could you please copy the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your desktop (you won't be able to do anything with it directly), and then upload the copy to your public SkyDrive (or other favoured filshare site) and post a link?
It'll aloow me to hopefully do some forensics so that I can track down the cause for later users with similar problems.
Thanks

I hope it helps.

Thanks for that.
A quick look shows only one 'bad' file (dnsapi.dll), which I don't think is related to the problem.
There were however a huge number (3000+) of file moves showing - from what I've seen so far, this looks like a .NET update that didn't complete properly (or was still 'inprocess'). My knowledge of that part of the log is even less than it is of the rest, so I'm going to see if I can find someone else to give me a hand.
Thanks again - and good luck!
