  • Windows Product ID: 00426-068-6798822-86256

The product ID -068- Indicates a not for resale MSDN account. If you are not the account holder and you purchased this in a retail box, the box and it's contents are counterfeit. Demand an immediate refund from the seller

    For more information see this:

To see how good these counterfeits are becoming, see:

You will have to purchase a legitimate windows from a legitimate retailer.

  • Got it  reinstalled on my computer which I had custom built from at a local computer shop. He gave me the discs. with the box. I had the problem before and took my computer in. He kept it overnight and claimed that microsofts servers were down...... Doubt he'll admit to giving me a counterfeit version. In which case, what do I do? Can't microsoft transfer the license? I have the tangible copy of what's legitimately mine....

  • you can report it here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx

You could also try your local law enforcement that deals in fraud.

  • You say you have a box and disks?  Describe them.  If he sold you a boxed copy of Windows then it should be retail.  If, however, by boxed you mean a dvd case and unlabled disks then they mean nothing.

Microsoft cannot "transfer" something you are not supposed to be using.  The product key, not the physical media, is what you are paying for when you buy Windows.  It is the product key that unlocks your license.
