Broken Sata Port on HDD RRS feed

  • Question

  •

The sata cable broke off the back of my maxtor sata HDD.  In this computer I have four drives, but this one just had to be my C:/ drive.  i need to know if my BU on another drive can be reinstalled on a new drive and run my machine or am I totally hosed?  How do I go about fixing this disaster.  Maxtor/segate now are pricks and want to charge me from $700-1700 to fix a $.40 piece of plastic. Hose hound, vacum cleaning, maxy pad commercials.  That was my attempt at venting while not getting booted from the board.  I am just up against the wall.

    HELP!

  • Are you referring to a OneCare backup? If so, you can put a new drive in the PC, install the operating system to the new drive, install OneCare, and then use OneCare to restore your data. You will need to install any programs, though, as OneCare only backs up data defined by your plan settings.
