Live Mesh, Virus Spreading and Anti Virus Software RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is anyone able to explain to me what the dangers might be of viruses being spread through using Live Mesh?

Also how do the current big name antivirus products (Norton, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm) etc interact with Live Mesh? Do they monitor sync'ing between PCs so that a virus from an infected file on one won't spread to another?

  • The danger of malware spreading through Live Mesh is very minimal if each of your Mesh devices is protected with an up to date antimalware application. The risk is about the same as sharing files and folders on your local network. I can't say how the a-v products you mention work because I don't use any of those but most a-v products in real time will either scan a file when written to your hard drive or when the file is accessed. Additionally all files should be scanned during a scheduled scan so if your antivirus application is kept up to date you should be relatively safe.
