Money 2005 Fr - crashed - mbf file corrupted - how to recover? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all

I'm using Money 2005 (French) with the "Money2005-FR-QFE3.exe.exe"patch on and on Win 7.

3 days ago, money crashed by itself (I was not using the computer). When I reopened it I had this error message :

Window Title: Money Multiple Disk Backup

Message: Please insert the next backup disk. (The disk containing file "".)

The problem is that there is no myfilename.mny on my hard drave. It seems that during the "crash" this file was deleted... how is it possible?!!!

And, the myfilename.mbf seems corrupted. When I try to restore it I've got the same error message...

Is there a way to access to the contain of this file, even if it's corrupted so money can't read it... I don't know, with a hex editor or something else?

Please help!! I really need ti have those data back!

Thanks a lot for any help!

PS : I search the web for help unsuccessfuly... I found some sites that propose the recover my mbf file but I don't trust them... those data are private...

  • How old is your most recent backup?

  • This does not sound good. I presume you have already reinstalled French Money 2005 with the file that you name after the crash.

When you restore, do not restore to the remembered location, but instead Browse to your Documents folder and choose a new name.

Search your computer for *.mbf, *.mny, *.m14, *.m12 files in case you find something. I like Agent Ransack as a search. Make copies of whatever you find onto other media until you get your backup situation working.

You could consider having a service or program try to recover files. In that case, I would clone the disk first. Avoid any solution that rights to the problem disk drive.

    I wish I had a better solution.
