Thank you for visiting our forum today. Unfortunately this wont work. There are different versions of Windows such as, OEM SLP, OEM System Builder, Retail, COA SLP and Volume Licensing. The product key must match what version of Windows is being installed on the computer. Best option is please contact the Technical Support for the computer manufacture. Open a service ticket and request the re-installation recovery software. There may be a small fee involved but all this will be explained by the company. Hope this solution will provide help. Also if your in the market for updated operating software and/or other products visit Microsoft Marketplace @  http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ .  Take care and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  • Thanks Stephen,

I just went and bought a new XP cd, and I am still getting the same problem, all what I need to know how to get out of this loop.  If I insert the new Cd the Installation continues, and when I get to to enter the product key, I get the the same dialog ( the Key is invalid ).  How  can I  go back and format the Hard drive and install from the New CD?

  • MJamoul,

You should not be experiencing the same problem. Did you reformat the hard drive while using the new XP CD you just purchased? If not you will need to completely reformat your computer and use the product key that came with the new XP CD you just purchased. Should you need assistance please visit Windows Help and How-to "Using Windows XP" at http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/usingwindowsxp.mspx. Next located "Computer Set-Up and Maintenance" and open it. The next page will provide you detailed steps for installing and setting up Windows XP. This should alleviate the problem you are experiencing.

    Thank you,

    Stephen
